A busy weekend

Last Saturday, I went to a local coin show.

The paratransit van picked me up early here at home.  I spent hours at the coin!

Being out and about for hours at a coin show tires me out.  But it's a good kind of tired.

Many of my coin buddies from back in the day when I had my own coin business are long gone.  But a few remain.  And I've made friends with some of the newer dealers.  Several of the dealers said to me, "You're so much better now than you were last August."  I always tell them that the credit goes to the good therapy I've been getting.   Mrs. AOW sure did pick the right therapy place this time around!

On Sunday, my friend Steve picked me up and took me to the VFW to spend the afternoon with the guys.   Five bears and a sub sandwich later, I came home.  A good time!

I know that Mrs. AOW was glad that I was out of the house for two days in a row.  Over the weekend, she was miserable after the EMG that she had last Friday.

Therapy breakthrough!

The past few weeks, my occupational therapist tried a new electronic device to stimulate the return of some function in my left arm, which has been completely useless since the stroke I had on September 15, 2009.

I am now going to therapy three days a week!

I will be on this therapy schedule through the month of February.

We don't know how much use of my arm will come back.  But at least the effort is being made!  And I have an excellent OT.  Cute, too!

Addendum from AOW: THIS WEB SITE gives information about the device that is bringing about a breakthrough for Mr. AOW's stroke recovery.  Amazing robotics!  This training device taps the brain's capacity for neuroplasticity.

Meanwhile, I have graduated to eating in the kitchen instead of from the hospital table next to my bed.

Mrs. AOW and I are relieved that I can eat at a table instead of her having to tote all my meals and snacks from the kitchen into the living room, where my hospital bed is.

Stroke recovery is a long, hard road.

Little Johnny

(with thanks to Big Bubba)

The teacher asks the kids in class: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Little Johnny: "I wanna be a billionaire, going to the most expensive clubs, take the best bitch, give her a Ferrari worth over a million bucks, an apartment in Copacabana, a mansion in Paris, a jet to travel through Europe, an Infinite Visa Card and to make love to her three times a day."

The teacher, shocked, and not knowing what to do with the bad behavior of the child, decides not to give importance to what he said and then continues the lesson . . . .

"And you, Tanya?"

"I wanna be Johnny's bitch!"

Time for humor

With thanks to Big Bubba:

Today's short reading from the Bible ...

And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth.

Then he made the earth round!

And He laughed and laughed.

Two hours into my first day of work as a Walmart greeter an ugly woman came in with her two kids.

Hearing her swear at them, I said, "Good morning, welcome to... Walmart. Nice kids, are they twins?"

The mom answered, "Hell no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7. Why would you think they're twins? Are you blind or stupid?"

I replied, "I'm not blind or stupid. I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day, and thank you for shopping at Walmart."

My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work.

Sad but true

Found at Freethinke:

When Mrs. AOW and I recently had Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with family and friends, all the young people were glued to their devices.

I like my iPad, but it's not my LIFE!

Technology should be a tool, not a master.

Blasts from the past:

I miss music like this. But at least we have YouTube and can still enjoy these great tunes.

Music for winter time

I grew up in Southern California.

I don't really miss my old life there. Well, except for the weather.

Winter here in Northern Virginia can be dismal, now that I don't get to drive around in the snow.

Back in the day

When I was growing up, everybody used to sing this song, and we all wanted a puppy too:

Patti Page passed away on January 1, 2013.  She was still performing until just recently.

Happy New Year!

Not so sure how happy 2013 is going to be with Hussein in the Oval Office for another four years.

But it's best to be optimistic on the first day of the year!

Who knows?  Maybe we'll get a run of good luck, after all.
