Wheelchair road rage

This guy has issues:
A disabled man used his 4mph electric wheelchair to smash up a Transit van because two workmen had parked it outside his house, a court heard.

Kurt Baron, 40, caused £2,000 of damage to the vehicle's bodywork and narrowly missed a mother pushing a pram, forcing her and the baby into the road.

He also deliberately crashed into barriers round a manhole where the two Electricity North West engineers were working before threatening them with a claw hammer, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Baron, who is wheelchair bound after breaking his back in a fall from a tree, admitted possessing an offensive weapon and criminal damage, but avoided jail.

The prosecution said his wheelchair rampage happened on October 30 last year after he had a row with a blind friend in his house in Nelson, Lancashire.
He takes out his rage on himself too:
The court heard Baron had stabbed himself in the leg with a 12 inch knife while in his house and he told the court 'Over the last five months, a lot has changed. All I want is a normal life.'
Glad that I'm a mellow guy and not like Kurt Baron!

Of course, if I had tantrums, Mrs. AOW would put me in my place. You don't want to know how - and neither do I.

Some people will try anything

Brave or foolish?

I say foolish! Even if he is a specialist in "cluster balloons."

There are safer ways to cross the Atlantic.

At least he's attached to the balloons in a lifeboat this time - instead of in an office chair:
On previous flights Trappe travelled on an office chair suspended by the balloons. On this trip, he is travelling inside a small yellow lifeboat. "If I touch down on water then the attempt will be over as it will be impossible to take off again, but the boat will keep me alive," he said.

Addiction to technology

Hat tip to Adrienne's Corner:

Mrs. AOW avoids getting a smart phone like the damn thing is the plague.

I agree!

Everybody seems glued to their devices.

This can't be healthy behavior! And it sure as hell puts a cramp on having a person-to-person social life!

I get pissed off when I see people who used to be normal and fun to be around so addicted to electronic devices.

Picking on kids

I read a jaw dropping stories on the news every day. Here's one of many:

Cupcakes With Army Soldiers Get Kid In Hot Water At School

CARO (CBS Detroit) A 9-year-old boy’s birthday cupcakes sparked a school controversy that just keeps growing, with scores of people lining up against a school principal who found the cupcake’s topping “inappropriate.”

The boy was chided, and so were his parents, for cupcakes featuring little green Army men on the top.

Schall Elementary School principal Susan Wright called the parents at home and said the cupcakes were insensitive in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting. School staff pulled off the Army men before they were served.

[...]

Martial arts instructor Josh Brown, who teaches both the father and son through his school at Caro Martial Arts, is one of the outraged local residents.

“He’s a little 9-year-old kid and it was his birthday cupcakes,” Brown said. “These guys (soldiers) are heroes, and too many people are confusing them with psychopaths.”

Outlaw everything!

You can't make this shit up!

This morning, on the local news, I heard about this:
Buying a ski mask isn't illegal, but could restricting their sale help prevent crime?

The notion is stirring debate among some Northwest Washington residents after reports of robberies committed by men wearing ski masks. The frequency of the robberies also has caught attention of police, who say one neighborhood crew is frequently purchasing masks at a local sports store for the express purpose of committing robberies.

"They clearly are a problem. Otherwise, we wouldn't see it being mentioned in all the reports," said Faith Wheeler, an Advisory Neighborhood Commission member from the Takoma neighborhood in Northwest.

[...]

On a Metropolitan Police Department-run listserv, Ms. Wheeler was one of several people who broached the subject of trying to discourage the sale of ski masks in the neighborhood, or asked legislators whether there are other ways to ban their sale....
As Duck says, "We are a sorry people"!

Truth stranger than fiction

From The Many Faces of Death:
As a pathologist was making the first incision at autopsy in New York in 1964, the “corpse” suddenly leaped up and seized the poor man by the throat. The corpse lived, but the pathologist suffered a cardiac arrest and died on the spot.

Here's another, this one from Crazy and True:
Jose David Diaz-Marrero was recently sentenced to eight years in prison....

According to the Ocala Star-Banner, the 20-year-old had been accused of perpetrating a string of burglaries between December 2010 and January 2011.

But the sentence reflects more than your simple garden-variety break-and-enter.

Because the laptop, jewelry, 42-inch screen TV and DVD player stolen from Holli Tencza's home can ultimately be replaced.

The ashes belonging to her late father and two deceased Great Danes cannot.
And not just because Diaz-Marrero and his two accomplices also stole the urns in which the ashes were contained.

Rather, they cannot be returned in their entirety because the trio mistook the urns' contents for "crushed pills" and reportedly proceeded to smoke and snort them.
I have no idea why I'm posting this - except that I do enjoy weird stories.

How does a thing like this happen?

Work accident: Jose Melena, a Bumble Bee tuna plant employee with six years' experience, was cooked dead in a steamer machine.

What happened? Did Melena pick the wrong place to take a nap?
