I don't have as many prep notes as usual this time.
But a couple of friends have commissioned me to buy selected items for them.
If I can even find those items!
Silver and gold prices are down, so many dealers may not be willing to part with certain items in their inventory.
It will be a relief to be out and about if only for one day. We've been real shut in here since Mrs. AOW's eye surgery back on October 2. She's still miserable, but isn't letting on. When she can help letting on, that is. I know that she's still in quite a bit of pain and very, very tired. She was going to go to the coin show with me, but I'm not sure that she's up to it.

This Weekend
I haven't been thinking much about blogging lately because I'm getting ready to go to another coin show. I always study up for weeks in advance, and that's what I've been doing lately.
I have pages of notes for this trip to the coin show.
I've been doing a lot of research because a couple of my friends have bankrolled me to make some buys for them. As a former coin dealer, I still can get the dealer's discount when I make purchases at these coin shows. Plus, and I hate to say it, a man with a mobility device gets treated more fairly by the dealers.
Maybe I can make some good buys for myself too! But right now, the bid/ask for precious metals is low, so lots of dealers are in too deep and won't sell at the new lower prices.
The paratransit van will pick me up before the sun rises, and I'll stay at the coin show all day long. For almost 3 years after my stroke, Mrs. AOW had to go to the coin show with me because of bathrooming issues. Now I can manage on my own! Except that I fall in the john once in a while. The guys at the coin show come to pick me up when I do fall; I call them from my cell phone, which I always wear in a special pouch around my neck
Wish me luck so that I can make some good buys - for my friends and for myself. Now is a good time to invest!

Coin Show This Weekend
I haven't been thinking much about blogging lately because I'm getting ready to go to another coin show. I always study up for weeks in advance, and that's what I've been doing lately.
The precious metals market is still hot, but not as hot as a few months ago.
Right now, the experts are talking about getting better profits out of silver than gold. Also, the price of gold is so damn high! Buying silver doesn't cost nearly as much.
There are lots of coin collectors at these shows, and there are more coin collectors than precious metals investors. But I don't see many kids collecting coins now.
It's a pity that there's not much jewelry at coin shows ever since gold went through the roof. I like to buy jewelry for Mrs. AOW, but the material she likes - unusual pieces with nice stones such as sapphires and diamonds just isn't there. I guess that a lot of people scrapped their jewelry for precious metal value.

Unique floor
I used to be a coin dealer. I'm still dabbling in coins as a collector and an investor.
I found this video interesting (hat tip to Western Hero):
Great idea!
If I had a home bar, I create a floor like this!

Another Day at the Coin Show
Tomorrow I am going to the local coin show again. I'll be spending about 5 hours at the show.
My last trip to the coin show was in May.
I'm looking for specific coins this time:
1. 1942P proof war nickel
2. 1995 double-die penny
3. 7 -over-8TF (tail feather) Morgan silver dollar
4. 1931S cent
I may not find all of those coins in the grades I'm looking for. Also, Mrs. AOW doesn't let me take a credit card or the check book.
I'm not looking for any Christmas presents this time around.

My recent purchases
I bought these commemorative dollars (2007 and 2010) at the coin show I went to a few months ago (click to enlarge):
My neighbor took the photos. He didn't get the color quite right because of the plastic shields. Also, he is mainly a landscapes photographer.
The first one is uncirculated. The second one is a proof and VERY silver, with good frost and cameo effect.

Pure Stupidity To Continue This
As a lifelong coin collector and a former coin dealer, I find these coins unique in that they have the date, mint mark, and motto on the edge of the coin. This placement of the engraving has never been produced before by the U.S. Mint and brings the idea of three sides to a coin to a new level. I'd personally like to see the series completed, but the good idea has flopped and is costing the taxpayers too much money now:
