Coin Show This Weekend

I haven't been thinking much about blogging lately because I'm getting ready to go to another coin show.  I always study up for weeks in advance, and that's what I've been doing lately.

The precious metals market is still hot, but not as hot as a few months ago.

Right now, the experts are talking about getting better profits out of silver than gold.  Also, the price of gold is so damn high!  Buying silver doesn't cost nearly as much.

There are lots of coin collectors at these shows, and there are more coin collectors than precious metals investors.  But I don't see many kids collecting coins now.

It's a pity that there's not much jewelry at coin shows ever since gold went through the roof.  I like to buy jewelry for Mrs. AOW, but the material she likes - unusual pieces with nice stones such as sapphires and diamonds just isn't there.  I guess that a lot of people scrapped their jewelry for precious metal value.

Hi Mr. AOW.
Yes gold is down but only for a very short while.
I've noticed that more and more Russian jewelers are using semi Precious gemstones in their jewelry, the cost is lower and overtime they seem to have gained in value.

Despite the fact that everyone in the jewelry industry now agrees that the term semi-precious is not fair, they still need a name to call those gemstone varieties other than ruby, emerald and sapphire.

AOW, I'm looking for a 1913 Liberty nickel if you see one.

But seriously, scrapping jewelery is sure something I'm thinking about doing pretty soon.

Gold specifically.

PPS, there are some good cases being made for silver appreciation in 2014. I have a nephew who buys poor quality silver coins for the content value. fwiw

Odie,
If I had plenty of bucks, I would invest in some gold right now! Bit I would be selective in what I would buy. Some gold pieces hold their value better than others.
