A sad day
| Our 2000 Mustang GT Convertible at Myrtle Beach in 2007 |
Today Mrs. AOW is taking our Mustang to a friend so that he can arrange the sale of the car that Mrs. AOW love so much.
I haven't been able to drive since I had a stroke, and since Mrs. AOW's detached retina, she really shouldn't ride in a convertible with the top down. What's the point of having a convertible if you can't take the top down?
Mrs. AOW bought the car on her 49th birthday in 2001. "My midlife crisis!" she said.
We had such good times with that car from 2001-2009. I wonder how many times I washed and shined her? Thousands, I guess.
But now the time has come to say goodbye to her. Depressing!
Mrs. AOW and I are telling ourselves that we should be glad that we ever owned a car as special as our Mustang. I even won 2nd place in a national car show. Not much consolation, though.
On Tuesday, I drove our Mustang one last time when my friend Steve came over to help me get into the car. I'm not ready to drive in traffic, so I just drove her up and down our side street.
Getting old is a bitch!

Our new van
Friday evening, the van with the ramp arrived! It's not new, but it's new to us!
It's a 2007 Dodge Caravan SXT with less than 25,000 miles on it.
Two of the features that I decided our van must have so that I can get in and out by myself: power ramp and power sliding doors. I left the rest up to Mrs. AOW. She made sure to get a van with a CD player.
Mrs. AOW can drive like a bat out of hell! On our first trip out, she took a corner way too fast and flipped me off the scooter and onto the van's floor.
It wasn't all her fault! I should have been hanging on! After all, I'm the one who insisted that we didn't have to secure the ramp to the floor gizmos.
We went to a car cruise-in last night. Mrs. AOW didn't dread the outing this time because there will be no more lifting that scooter out of the trunk of the Crown Vic.
In a few days, Mrs. AOW will be posting some of the photos that she took at her own site.
Having this van means that I won't be shut in the house so much of the time. A big expense - but worth it. We hope.

Vacation photo
Mrs. AOW took this photo without giving me any notice:
The picture was taken at Diamond Resorts Greensprings in Williamsburg - in the master bedroom.
This morning, we reserved a used minivan with a ramp. In a few weeks, the van will arrive here to our house for our final approval. We have to test it out before we make the purchase.

Russian Road Adventures
In Russia, dash cams are required by law.
Take a look at the video (emailed to Mrs. AOW by Mustang):

Off To A Car Show!
Mrs. AOW here.
For the first time since Mr. AOW had that terrible brain hemorrhage in 2009, he's going to a car show with the Mustang!

Pismo Beach
As a native of Sourthern California back in the day when I was a teenager, I used to drive my own dune buggy on Pismo Beach. Great place for buggies and ATVs!

The Good Ol' Days
I miss those road trips that Mrs. AOW and I used to take.
One of the places we always wanted to drive to was Monument Valley:
Now, I'm lucky to get an outing once every few weeks.
Getting old is a bitch.

Our Day at the National Museum of the American Indian
Mrs. AOW, The Beak, and I had a GREAT time on Saturday, March 31! The Beak came with gifts for me: a movie poster and a glossy still photo from Harvey, my favorite movie.
We went to this museum in Washington, D.C.:
Another view of the museum:
The architects of this museum really did create a wonderful building!
I wanted to go to this museum because they had this special exhibit in town for a few months:
Press release about the exhibit we went to see. That VW is covered with TWO MILLION beads!
One of the best things about the National Museum of the American Indian is the Mitsitam Cafe. Check out the information about that cafeteria! The Beak had venison sausage and a buffalo burger. Mrs. AOW and I had maple-brined turkey with cherry sauce, watercress salad with wild rice, and beets with apples and candied walnuts -- all Native American Indian foods from the Eastern Woodlands tribes.
After we spent all day at the museum, the paratransit driver allowed The Beak to ride back to our house with us so that he could relax here at our house before catching the subway back into D.C., then the train to NYC.
This outing was our best trip since I had my stroke in September 2009. I can manage my scooter just fine, and that gives Mrs. AOW a break. On the big concrete platform outside the museum, I got to spend some time speeding around on my scooter and turning donuts. Freedom!

Cars And Music
I've owned two Lincoln Town Cars in my life. Neither of those big boats was a hot rod. Too bad.
