Troubles Here

Mrs. AOW has a detached retina - a very bad thing to have!  It's a terrible operation!

She's not talking about all this at her blog because she's too busy getting ready for tomorrows's operation.  It's major surgery - the first time she's ever had such a long operation.

She really doesn't want to talk about this terrible thing at her blog.

When things settle down, she might post about it there. Maybe.

This is what the operation will be like:

Mrs. AOW's friend Sharon is staying here to be Mrs. AOW's caregiver.  Sharon will take me to the hospital so that I can be there in the waiting room and see Mrs. AOW as soon as possible after surgery.

Like I said, "Troubles here."  Mrs. AOW won't be blogging for a while!

Hi.

I can imagine what must be going trough your mind, not being able to help her the way you wish you could.
At times like this we wonder why God puts this new challenge on us.
I'll say a prayer for her asking God to give her a successful operation and recovery.

Sorry to hear this. Stay strong, and tell the Mrs. that we're thinking and praying for her!

I have been praying all week for Mrs. AOW since she told me. I said special prayers this morning when I knew she was preping and going into surgery. God bless you both and what a lovely friend you have in Sharon and her husband!

Hi, Mr. AOW,

As you know, I talked with your Mrs. just yesterday, so I knew what was coming down. I respected her wishes not to discuss this on the blogs, but did take the liberty of informing several of our blogging buddies behind the scenes to them the opportunity to pray for her.

I hope everything went well today? I know how she hates to just sit and be quiet. It's not in her nature, but you're going to have to hold her down, even if you have to sit in her, till she gets through the next two weeks.

For what it may be worth we're all rootin' for ya.

God bless!

I appreciated getting the news that The Mrs. endured her surgery, that things went as well as could be expected, and that she got back home without mishap.

The post-operative period, however, is very important if full recovery is to take place. I know that following the doctor's instructions to the letter is bound to be enough to try the patience of a saint.

SO, we will all continue to pray for both of you, and try to be as helpful as we can at long distance.

Don't forget what I said about sitting on her, if she tries to get rambunctious. ;-)

Oh my goodness! I got sick to my stomach about 10 seconds in, so I just did not watch. Good luck to her.

Hope all is continuing to go well with Mrs. AOW's recovery?

I now this is very trying for her -- and you too, sir.

Thank God you have capable, friendly assistance in the house!

Best wishes to you both.

Do your best to keep us up to date, Mr. AOW.

Just talked to the Mrs. She's not ecstatic, but I think from everything said, all will be well. It's just going to take more time than either of you would like.

Wish I could do more than spend time in prayer and well wishing, but I am sure God is looking out for us all -- as long as we do as much as we can for ourselves.

It's tempting to feel uncomfortable at a time like this, and perfectly natural, but please try to think positive no matter what. It really does help.

Take care, and God bless,

FT

I spoke to Mrs. AOW yesterday and was relieved to know she came out of surgery and is recovering, though it is a miserable recovery and my heart goes out to her. It is awfully hard on her as she recovers and resumes her life again as wife, teacher, caregiver, friend, blogger, but God will give her the strength to do so! Thank God she has you Mr. AOW! But I do not know if she is in the mood for jokes right now...give it a few more days and AOW will be cracking you all up! That is of course if she is not already! Bless you all! :)

Too early to know much. So far vision is almost zero!

She is resting a lot and sees the doc again on Monday.

I see the doctor again today.

I have managed to find an older pair of my glasses -- a pair that has more power for the right eye. The left eye is down for the count for at least 3 months, so I'll have to rely on what used to be my bad eye -- my right eye.

I can see a little bit through my left eye, but that eye is literally looking through a gas bubble that the surgeon placed during the operation. Very distracting! I'm hoping that the eye doctor will let me patch my left eye at least part of the time so that my vision is okay to drive.

I am still in a lot of pain, but stopped taking the heavy duty drugs because of various side effects.

Thanks for the update so we can send our good thoughts your way. I hope you can keep the pain meds toned down as it surely means you're getting better..

Oh I am so sorry AOW that you are still in so much pain. I got your message at my blog yesterday and commented to it. You can read it when you are well, if you even remember! An update would be great as to what the surgeon had to say. Do you still have help at home? If there is something I can do for you or Mr. AOW let me know!

God bless you both.

Love,
L

Bob,
Thank you.

We're muddling through here, but the situation is difficult. Several more procedures lie ahead over the next 6 months. **sigh**
