The stroke survivors club

A while back, I decided that I might enjoy meeting with others who have had strokes.  What I miss most since having my stroke is the kind of social life I used to have.

Sure enough, my occupational therapist knew about such a once-a-month stroke survivors meeting at the hospital.

I went to my first meeting in January. That meeting was all about what Obamacare was supposed to do to help us. Nobody else at the meeting seemed the least bit concerned about how all these freebies would be paid for.  Besides, all of the supposed benefits discussed were sometime in the future.

The other night, I attended the February meeting. This time, the presentation was all about the county freebies that the disabled could get. Again, nobody else there seemed the least bit concerned how all this stuff gets paid for. And, at this particular meeting, people were bitching about needing even more freebies from the county.

The people at the meeting don't look like they're down on their luck. Just the opposite, in fact. Still, they are looking into just how many freebies they can get.

The above outlines what is wrong with America today.

I'm going to attend the next meeting, I guess.  Maybe they will discuss a topic that I'm actually interested in!

Good luck Mr. I have a feeling you'll be surrounded by the takers again. I think those people would depress me with their "helpless" attitude.

A number of years ago a doctor told me "Don't concentrate on what you can't do no longer, concentrate on what you still can do', i think these people are in need of such advice.

They ought to charge you to attend those meetings. ;)

...oh, wait. I'm sure that the taxpayers are already being charged for them. ;)

Sounds as if you're the only person in the room with an ounce of sense!

The others are leeches! "Gimmie, I have a disability!"

You, on the other hand are WORKING to get better!

Mr. AOW told me that some people at the meeting were bitching about MetroAccess, the paratransit system here. These people don't seem to have a clue how lucky we are to have MetroAccess!

Indeed. One of my new job responsibilities is to confirm approval with case managers to schedule 'med escorts.'

In my county you can't find a bus at all, let alone a handicapped access one. Sending a private van to these folk's house is an ordeal, and they ONLY get out for Dr. appointments!

Your Mrs. reminded me that I haven't stopped by, in a while. It's been quite a while, actually. I just did an article on entitlements and she said you had also.

It's a people problem. Most people don't think about things. They're all pretty much focused on themselves and what they want. They're simply not interested in anything beyond that.

It seems to me that the reason the selfless Mother Teresa's of the world get so much praise is because the rest of us wouldn't do that stuff on a bet. They're held up as shining examples of humanity to inspire others to follow suit so we can feel good just because we're cheering them on, and we're glad they're doing it so no one will ask us to.

I can't find fault with that. Civilizations arise and technology advances entirely because of selfishness. If everyone were as selfless at Mother Teresa, we'd all still be living in caves because we'd all be caring for each other instead of trying to advance ourselves.

Well, good luck at those meetings, I hope they don't turn out to be Liberal bitch sessions about insufficient freebies and goodies. If they do, maybe try VFW or Amerioan Legion meetings? I see you have their emblems up here.

I would gladly pay a fee to attend meetings. If the meetings lived up to their pr blurbs!

I am not interested in bitch sessions. So, I don't say anything during the meetings so far.

Brooke, yes, it is hard work. And I have to sleep a lot because therapy wears me out!

I don't have time these days to visit others' blog sites!
