Horse Video

My stepfather sent me this video. When I was growing up, I had a barrel-bellied horse named Tiny. Tiny was a great mount, but not nearly as elegant as there Friesians:

Wow. Those are positively majestic!

I'll have to show this to my hubby. He is scared of horses, but I'll bet he gets a kick out of the scene with the horse being led by a bicyclist!

WOW great animals , probably the kind they used during the Crusades , you needed a strong horse to carry those knights in full armor.

Mr. AOW, how's the cuff working out?

Mr. AOW is AWOL because therapy and social outings are wearing him out. He peeks in here from time to time, but isn't blogging much. Bigger fish to fry! YEEHAW!

Duck,
Wednesday, with only the below-the-knee cuff, Mr. AOW took 36 steps! I didn't see the quality of the walking, but it IS happening. He does require a rest between of about 2 minutes in between each set of 12 steps. He was exhausted when he got home -- so tired that he didn't want anything to eat! All he wanted to do was sleep. So, he did -- and on his left side as advised by neuro experts -- something about brain rewiring.

The training session with Bioness for the thigh cuff is scheduled for September 27. Unfortunately, I will be at work and won't see for myself how things go. **sigh**

The therapists are particularly pleased because Mr. AOW is one of the few patients there trying to break back into "real life."

Last Saturday, I took Mr. AOW to a cruise in at a hamburger joint. We haven't gone to one of these in ages! Frankly, I'm getting too old to push him in a wheelchair. But now that the Crown Vic is up and running, I take the scooter, wrestle it from the trunk, and put him on his own for a couple of hours. Freedom for both of us! I can't take him out more often as that scooter is not easy to retrieve from the trunk; my back and leg "sing" for a few days afterwards. I've got to learn to ask bystanders for help! I'm not good at asking anybody for anything.

One possibly exciting development with OT: something is there in the affected arm and hand. The OT is applying to Medicare for an electric stim device for us to use at home in the hopes that more awakening will occur so that Mr. AOW can use the Bioness for the hand an arm.

As far as I know, Medicare will not cover Bioness. Each unit costs about $10,000, I think. I will be liquidating assets if necessary so as to purchase the three units if they are making life "real" again.

That is SO WONDERFUL!!!

I have a couple of clients who are have had strokes, and they both take the 'oh well, I'm just crippled' attitude.

Keep it up, sir!

Hi AOW.

Great to hear how Mr. AOW is doing.
Just a question could or would it be easier to put a blanket on the rear seat and put the scooter there , it might be easier to retrieve it from there?

Will,
At this point, it is easier for me to get Mr. AOW into the back seat just behind the driver's seat than to get him into the passenger side. Thus, no room for the scooter on the back seat. **sigh**

However, if Mr. AOW gets the Bioness system, he may well be able to get into and from the front passenger seat with ease. We shall see.

My ancestors (farmers) came to America from East-Frisia (Germany not the Netherlands)... they probably should have brought their horses with them.... :(
